Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located / We can’t find your location!

The Tipsy Tuna is located in the same building as Lavender Wind on Coveland ST, the street just behind Front ST in Coupeville. To enter simply go around back to the patio area. The indoor area is where you order your food and drinks. When in doubt, go to Lavender Wind and ask directions.

Can I bring my small child in a stroller?

The Tipsy Tuna is currently an age 21+ establishment. This isn’t a house rule, but instead based on the liqueur license that we were awarded. While we are considering changing this license in the future, currently no minors are permitted in the back patio area. However, we currently have one table outside the back patio area and Lavender Wind is gracious enough to allow people to eat anywhere else on their property, including their indoor area. All we ask is that you respect their property and possibly extend your patronage to them.

Where do you get your fish?

We get our fish from a local fish whole-seller located in Pt. Townsend. The tuna they get is wild caught in the pacific ocean by a company based in Honolulu. While the company is located in Honolulu, the fish can be caught anywhere in the west pacific where it is flash frozen on the boat and eventually processed at a facility, typically in South East Asia. The flash freezing process is what locks in the freshness and kills parasites making it safe to eat. Contrary to popular belief, fresh, never frozen fish isn’t considered safe to eat raw in the United States. The flash freezing process is what makes it, “sushi grade.”

Do you plan on adding X, Y, or Z to the menu?

We have plans to expand our menu in the future. Firstly, we want to tackle some common dietary concerns to try and be inclusive as much as is feasible. We already changed our Shoyu sauce recipe to be gluten free and soon our Spicy Mayo will be too. Then we would like to add some more vegetarian options as not everyone defines vegetarian to include eggs. Eventually we plan on some hot menu items as well, but being a very small business we don’t want to jump into things before we are ready.

Will you be open during the Winter?

Yes. We plan to be open all year round. There may be some closures around the holidays, but for the most part the plan this year is to see if it is even feasible to be open all year round. If you like the idea of poke all year round, please come by and support us in the off season. Currently there are outdoor heaters, a fire pit, and a few umbrellas to try and make the outdoor area a little more comfortable in the colder months and we are trying to find more ways to make it even more cozy. While we have a limited amount of sake at the moment, we do want to offer a variety of sake and other drinks that can be served hot for maximum coziness in the winter.

Hello, I am from California so I need avocado with every meal, do you have any avocado?

No.

Can I have my food to go?

The theme here at the Tipsy Tuna is casual. All of our food is designed to easily be taken to go with relative ease. So not only do we have food to go, we encourage people to take our food with them while exploring Coupeville. Take a bowl to the beach, on a kayak, or down to the wharf. Alternatively, you can stay here and enjoy the music and drinks with your meal. see? Casual.

I love poke, booze, and the beautiful patio! How can I help the Tipsy Tuna out?

We really appreciate the positive reception and feedback from the local community. There has been no shortage of people that have expressed interest in getting involved in some way. Firstly, I think the easiest way to support this business is continual patronage. It seems we are doing SOMETHING right so feel free to come back and enjoy another bowl or pint. If you are a part of a group or organization, consider using this space for an event or meeting.
If you would like to plan a more formal collaboration feel free to send an email to info@tipsy-tuna.com. We are really interested in supporting local musicians and artists. We also would like help planning events. If any of that speaks to you, don’t hesitate to reach out!

What the heck is a ‘Whimsy Discount?’

Exactly what it says! At the Tipsy Tuna, every day is Halloween! Everyday is Ren-fair! If you dress up in costume, juggle bowling pins, or bring a sufficient amount of whimsy you will be rewarded with a flat 10% discount! So please, convince all of your friends to dress up as pirates and come visit. Disclaimer: what counts as sufficient whimsy is up to staff. This is just to encourage people to put a decent amount of effort. A single witch hat probably won’t count, but an entire witch outfit probably will.
